Political violence fears grow as Michigan officials and organizations face threats
Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, bomb threats have been made against several Michigan lawmakers and historically Black colleges, leading to heightened safety concerns. Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrest and Michigan Senate President Pro Tempore Jeremy Moss have both spoken out against the political violence, emphasizing the need for a more secure environment. As a result of these threats, Michigan United Action postponed a town hall with Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Rebecca Balint, despite planned security measures, citing safety concerns. The organization intends to reschedule with enhanced security to ensure political discussions can continue.
