FBI Detroit sees 120% arrest increase, disrupts violent crime and cyber threats in 2025

In 2025, the FBI Detroit Field Office reported a 120% increase in arrests, totaling 841, with 75% linked to violent crime and gangs. This effort led to seizing 166 firearms, over 350 kilograms of illegal drugs, and locating more than 90 missing children, while disrupting over 200 targeted threats. The office also addressed cybercrimes, including federal charges against Chinese nationals and local researchers for smuggling biological materials, as well as dismantling a cryptocurrency exchange involved in laundering millions. Notable incidents included thwarting ISIS-inspired plots and two mass attacks in Michigan, underscoring effective collaboration with federal, state, and local partners.
