Detroit city council elects James Tate as new council president
James Tate has been elected as the new President of Detroit’s City Council, taking over from Mary Sheffield, who is now the mayor. Coleman Young II was also elected as the council president pro-tem. Tate, who has been a council member since 2010 and previously served as deputy chief of the Detroit Police Department, emphasized the responsibility of his new role and his commitment to community engagement.
