Report: Risks to Michigan's $348 billion auto industry

The Detroit Auto Show kicks off Wednesday with media and industry days, and then opens to the public on Saturday. It’s a huge event for the auto industry, including the Detroit Big Three -- Ford, Stellantis and General Motors. But, auto experts said Michigan is at a critical crossroads to project its $348 billion industry. Competition at home and around the world is threatening the state’s leadership in auto manufacturing. The industry supports 20% of Michigan’s jobs and pays $83 billion in wages. At the same time, southern states are building Battery Belts to lure companies away, while China is pushing ahead in the electric vehicle race.
