Crews working to fix dozens of water main breaks in Detroit
On Tuesday alone, the city of Detroit had 51 water main breaks. For example, streets were flooded and cars were stuck on ice on Barlow near 8 Mile and Groesbeck on the city’s east side, as well as Laing Street and Britain. The city said it’s an all-hands-on-deck situation now, and it’s increasing crews and shifting staff from other departments to get things fixed. The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department’s Deputy Director, Sam Smalley, joined Local 4 Live to talk about the response and what people can do to protect their homes.
