Detroit faces 50+ water main breaks in freezing temps

Detroit is facing significant flooding due to multiple water main breaks, exacerbated by the city's aging infrastructure amid cold temperatures. With pipes averaging 95 years old, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department is managing 50 to 60 breaks, with crews working tirelessly to restore services. Despite investing nearly $100 million annually in upgrades, over 2,700 miles of pipes still need attention. Residents are urged to report issues to expedite repairs, while the department focuses on crew safety during these challenging conditions.
