Deadly carjacking on Detroit's west side

A man has died after being assaulted and run over by his own car by a suspected carjacker early Tuesday morning at a gas station on Detroit’s west side. The man went to a gas station near Prevost Street and Joy Road on Feb. 10, 2026, at around 4 a.m., parked his car and went inside the convenience store. When he left the store, he saw someone in his car. Detroit Police Captain Marcus Thirlkill said when the man approached the suspect, the suspect got out of the car and “viciously” attacked the man, leaving the man lying on the ground with severe injuries. The suspect then allegedly went back into the man’s car and drove over him numerous times before driving away. After a brief police chase, the suspect was arrested near Greenfield and Warren. Thirlkill said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information was given about the victim or the suspect, as the investigation is ongoing. Thirlkill also said this attack appears to be random.
