Detroit youth showcase talent at Pistons’ poetry and art scholarship event

The Detroit Pistons held their 21st annual Poetry Scholarship Competition at the Lewis College of Business, celebrating the theme "Black excellence, all the time." The event, initiated by Pistons legend Rick Mahorn, showcased ten poets and ten artists from Detroit high schools competing for a $20,000 scholarship. Kady Robinson from Detroit Marygrove High School won the poetry slam, while Cherokee Barrow was the winning artist. The event, honoring Earl Lloyd, fostered community and new friendships among participants, with Mahorn praising the creativity and expression of the youth.
