‘He kept hope alive’: Jesse Jackson remembered in Detroit for lifelong fight for justice, equality

Rev. Jesse Jackson is celebrated for his lifelong dedication to civil rights and justice, particularly his impactful relationship with Detroit. He was known for his intellectual and emotional advocacy, influencing figures like Rep. Debbie Dingell and officiating notable events such as the wedding of NAACP Detroit Branch President Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony. Jackson's legacy includes his involvement in significant moments like opposing Detroit's emergency manager in 2013, covering Nelson Mandela's visit in 1990, and being the first Black candidate to win a major party presidential caucus in 1988. The NAACP Detroit Branch is planning a tribute to honor his contributions at their 71st Annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner.
