Detroit east side solar park raises access concerns for neighbors
Construction has begun on a 42-acre solar park near Detroit's airport as part of the larger Solar Neighborhoods Initiative, aimed at covering 165 acres across five neighborhoods in partnership with DTE Energy. Residents like Hazel Walker are concerned about accessibility due to construction, as her medical needs and her son's seizures require reliable street access. City officials, including Kayana Sessoms, acknowledge these issues and have engaged residents, some of whom accepted buyouts. Despite assurances from the Department of Public Works to address hazards like ice on detour routes, some residents feel pressured by the changes, though officials deny any intention of displacing them.
