Detroit author’s loss inspires ‘Meet the Buzzbees’

Detroit native Risonna Perkins wrote “Meet the Buzzbees,” a children’s book inspired by the loss of her mother, grandmother, and aunt to cancer, with each bee character representing a loved one. Blending music, bee facts, and Detroit pride, the book features a fictional bee family living on Belle Isle, local cancer resources, and a guide to attractions and food in Detroit, while also supporting cancer research and bee preservation through charitable donations.
