Ex-DPD Sgt. charged in 6th sexual assault case
The retired Detroit Police Sergeant accused of sexual assault in multiple cases over the span of four years is facing more charges. Former Detroit Police Sergeant Benjamin Wagner, 68, is accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting six girls and women ranging in age from 14 to 23 from 1999 to 2003 on the city’s west side. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy previously said Wagner has “led a double life as a law enforcement officer and a serial rapist.” Wagner joined the Detroit Police Department in 1998 and retired from the force in 2017, then moved to Greenville, North Carolina. He was arrested in North Carolina on March 17, 2026. On March 26, he was remanded to jail without bond. He is expected to return to court on April 7. In the sixth case, he was charged with one count of kidnapping, two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in 2002. Worthy announced the new charges on March 27. He was arraigned on charges in the sixth case on Friday.
