Detroit Country Day skiers overcome loss, illness to claim first state championship

The Detroit Country Day School girls’ ski team achieved a historic state championship, overcoming years of adversity, limited resources, and the loss of their beloved founder and coach, Patty Costigan. Guided by the compassion and perseverance instilled by Costigan and carried forward by head coach Geoff Becker—who himself battled cancer mid-journey—the team united through hardship and honored Costigan’s legacy with their victory. Their triumph was marked by resilience, teamwork, and a shared commitment to making their late mentor proud.
