Wayne State building evacuated after equipment fire sends smoke across Detroit
A fire broke out around 1 p.m. on an 11th-floor platform of the Maccabees Building at Wayne State University, sending large plumes of smoke over Detroit and prompting a full evacuation. The blaze, caused by an air-handling unit, was quickly contained and extinguished by Detroit firefighters, with no reported injuries. Both university and fire officials praised the rapid and well-coordinated emergency response.
