Understanding the challenges of the stigma surrounding men’s mental health
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and experts say many men are still struggling in silence. Men account for nearly 80% of suicides in the U.S., and a moment of distress can quickly turn into a tragic, permanent decision. Still, far fewer men seek mental health treatment compared to women, and only 13.4% of men receive mental health treatment. Psychologist Dr. Matthew Goodman from the Birmingham Maple Clinic joined Local 4 Live to help us better understand the challenges men face and how people can get help before it’s too late.
