Pontiac's streets keep killing pedestrians. Here's what the city plans to do about it.
In response to a rise in pedestrian deaths, including a recent fatal hit-and-run, Pontiac is implementing several new pedestrian safety projects across the city. These initiatives include adding and repainting crosswalks, reducing traffic lanes, fixing street lights, and securing a county grant for further improvements, particularly on Auburn and Baldwin avenues. Mayor Mike McGuinness emphasizes that these changes are strategically placed to protect residents and support safer travel for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Residents like Bruce Cobb, a previous accident victim, express appreciation for the long-overdue safety upgrades.
