An American doctor unknowingly operated on an Ebola patient. Now his whole family is being evacuated
The World Health Organization has warned that the risk of Ebola spreading in Congo and Uganda is high, with nearly 600 suspected cases and 139 suspected deaths, and the outbreak expected to continue for at least two more months. Health officials believe the virus circulated undetected for months and note that this outbreak involves a rare strain for which no vaccine is available. American doctor Peter Stafford, who contracted Ebola while working in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been evacuated to Berlin for treatment, along with his potentially exposed family, while another American physician is being sent to Prague.
