'Get off the phone and get on the block': Detroit men answer the call for youth
As summer break approaches in Detroit, the community group New Era Detroit is calling on men, particularly Black men, to join their Brothas on the Block program, which focuses on proactive youth engagement through block-by-block neighborhood walks. Led by President and CEO Zeek Williams, the initiative aims to provide leadership, representation, and support for local youth, encouraging men to be present and build relationships within the community. Organizers report strong participation and positive impact, with dozens of men engaging youth and working to address neighborhood issues directly. The group emphasizes the importance of moving beyond online discussions to real-world action and support.
