Lake St. Clair makes top 10 in Best Fishing Spots

We talk about the Great Lakes all the time (and we should). They are incredible. But here’s something worth stopping and appreciating this morning: Michigan is touched by four of the five Great Lakes—Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, and Lake Superior. Then there’s our little secret: Lake St. Clair. It’s the Great Lakes’ junior, and it’s just as amazing as the rest of them. Well, the rest of the country is starting to figure out what we already know. FishingBooker, one of the largest fishing trip-booking platforms in the world, just ranked the best fishing lakes in America for 2026, and Michigan is all over the list. Coming in at number one is Lake Michigan, the only Great Lake entirely within the United States, with king salmon, steelhead, lake trout, and smallmouth bass. Number two is Lake Erie, home to some of the best walleye fishing anywhere in the country. Number five is Lake Ontario, with brown trout, steelhead, and Chinook salmon. Number six is Lake Huron, including Saginaw Bay—one of the top walleye fisheries in the entire Great Lakes system. Number seven is Lake Superior, the biggest, deepest, coldest lake, and still one of the best lake trout fisheries left in America. And then there’s Lake St. Clair, number ten on the list—and locals will tell you it punches way above its weight. Elite smallmouth bass fishing, plus muskie, walleye, and sturgeon. And nearby, the Detroit River is one of the best walleye spots in the entire region. Michigan isn’t just on this list. Michigan is this list. Vanja Prolovina with FishingBooker, the platform behind this year’s rankings, joined Local 4 Live to talk more about this.
