DETROITFINAL REMINDER: Our last Weather Week special event day is Wednesday, as we kick off our annual weather radio campaign.

We’ll be broadcasting live at noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6 p.m. at the Meijer store in Warren, so come on out and see us, and also buy a specially discounted Midland Weather Radio to help keep you safe when severe weather threatens.

The radios are available for only $29.99 at ALL Meijer and ABC Warehouse stores in Southeast Michigan.  Since our campaign began a few years ago, over 32,000 weather radios have been purchased.

That’s remarkable, but there are still a lot of you who don’t have one.  I’ll just ask this question: What’s going to happen if you power goes out, your cell battery is dead, and a storm with a possible tornado is headed your way? Good luck with that.

These weather radios sit silently in the corner of a room with a battery backup, just like a smoke detector, and only sounds its piercing alarm when there’s something REALLY important you need to know…even if your power is out. And best of all, if you come out to our event in Warren on Wednesday, you can have your radio programmed just to alert you to warnings only for your county, and only for the particular watches, warnings, or advisories you want to know about. And don’t forget your business, child’s school, and house of worship…they should all have weather radios, too (talk to your school’s PTA about buying one for the front office, if the school doesn’t have one -- or perhaps buy one yourself and donate it).

Weather forecast:

Fortunately, we won’t have a need for our weather radios over the next week -- so you have plenty of time to run out and get yours!  Any lingering showers will end early this evening, with clearing taking place after that.  Lows in the upper 30s to near 40° (that’s 5° Celsius for our Canadian friends). It’s possible that some areas along and north of I-69 could be at risk for some frost, and the National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for this area tonight. North wind at 3 to 7 mph.

Mostly clear Wednesday night, with lows in the upper 30s (4° Celsius). Once again, our coldest suburban locations might be at risk for some frost, so don’t take any chances. After this, unless some record-breaking dip in the jet stream occurs – and this is not supported by ANY of my long range computer models -- I think midweek is our final frost chance of the season so, after this, you can go ahead and plant your annuals.

Highs in the low to mid 60s (17° Celsius).  North-northeast wind at 5 to 10 mph.  Wednesday’s sunrise is at 6:09 AM, and Wednesday’s sunset is at 8:51 PM.

Mostly sunny on Thursday, with highs in the mid to upper 60s (19° Celsius).

Mostly clear Thursday night, with lows in the mid 40s (8° Celsius).

Mostly sunny on Friday, with highs near 70° (21° Celsius).

The only chance for rain in my entire forecast is only a slight chance in Lenawee and Monroe Counties Friday night or early Saturday.

My computer models today are in better agreement than yesterday in keeping most of the moisture associated with a weak upper level system south of the state line.  While I’m not ready yet to completely wipe out the rain chance from my forecast (I’d like to see one more day of the computer models), I think most of us should have a dry Saturday, with skies becoming mostly sunny and highs near 70° (21° Celsius).

That great news for this Saturday’s Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Detroit, the Detroit Tigers Alumni charity softball game at the Van Buren Township softball field behind the Township Hall, the last weekend of Bookstock at Laurel Park Place in Livonia, and the Tigers homestand at Comerica Park!

I’ll keep an eye on this part of the forecast, and update you tomorrow.

Then we’re back to mostly sunny skies Sunday through Tuesday, with highs Sunday in the low to mid 70s (22° Celsius), in the mid 70s (23° Celsius) Monday, and in the upper 70s to near 80° (26° Celsius) on Tuesday!  What a stretch of weather, and we sure deserve it.
