Metro Detroit is getting rain showers on this Juneteenth, but the cooler weather is offering brief relief.
The chance of rain showers will last through Thursday, including the possibility of a few thunderstorms in the evening. Severe weather is not expected.
Thursday’s calmer weather comes as people are cleaning up from Wednesday’s damaging storms. Trees were downed and flash flooding resulted in at least one water rescue.
Apart from the chance of rain, expect mostly cloudy skies on Thursday. Highs will be in the mid-70s in most of Metro Detroit, but the Thumb will be in the lower-70s. Winds will be out of the west-northwest at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
A few showers and thunderstorms could linger into the evening, but plan for rain to be out of Southeast Michigan by 9 p.m. With lows around 60 degrees, nighttime winds will be westerly at 5 to 10 mph.
Friday will be partly cloudy, but there is the chance of a couple of pop-up showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will begin to heat up again. Highs will be in the lower- to mid-80s. Lows will be in the mid- to upper-60s.
The summer solstice will occur at 10:42 p.m.
Start planning for a heat wave.
Saturday’s highs will be around 90 degrees and Sunday’s high’s will be in the mid-90s. These scorching temperatures, combined with humidity, will make it feel like 100 degrees or more.
Daytime highs will stay in the lower- to mid-90s through midweek.
