DETROIT – WDIV has issued a 4Warn Weather alert for Thursday due to the threat of extreme heat and storms.
The primary reason for this alert is the dangerous heat. Heat index values for Thursday will be around 100 degrees, and a heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
On top of those heat concerns, the area is also under a marginal risk for isolated severe storms. There’s some uncertainty about the coverage and timing, but the broad window is from 2 p.m. Thursday to midnight.
The storms are not expected to be widespread, but isolated severe storms could be capable of producing damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and heavy rainfall.
Storms could bring a quick 1.5-2 inches of rain in short bursts, leading to localized flooding.
After Thursday, warm and muggy conditions persist Friday and through much of the weekend, with additional shower and storm chances. Highs are expected to be around 90 for the start of next week.
