Heavy rain, gusty winds possible in Metro Detroit -- What to know

Showers, thunderstorms move across SE Michigan

Showers and thunderstorms move across Southeast Michigan through the morning and linger into the afternoon.

Locally heavy rainfall is the primary concern. The marginal risk for severe weather is now south of the state line, so any additional thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening, mainly south of Port Huron, should not reach severe limits but could be on the strong side. These storms will be capable of heavy downpours and wind gusts upward of 30 mph.

Looking Ahead

Seasonable temperatures and dry weather move in and hold Wednesday through Friday. Highs through the work week will be in the low to possibly mid-80s. We get a taste of fall-like temperatures early next week as we round out the month of August with highs in the 70s and lows dropping into the 50s.

Hurricane Erin

On the forecast track, the center of Erin will pass to the east of the Bahamas today and tonight, and then move over the western Atlantic between the U.S. east coast and Bermuda on Wednesday and Thursday. Fluctuations in strength are possible over the next few days, but as of this morning it remains a Category 3 hurricane. Erin will continue to grow in size with hurricane-force winds extending outward up to 80 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 205 miles.
