DETROIT – The kids might want a hoodie as they head to the bus stop as most are waking up in the 40s and low 50s, but tee shirt weather returns this afternoon. Drier weather is on tap today with increasing clouds. We will be notably warmer tonight as clouds will serve as a blanket across Metro Detroit. Lows will be in the mid to upper 50s.
A cold front moves through Thursday bringing rain and a chance of non-severe thunderstorms from late morning to early afternoon with showers coming to an end during the evening as drier air builds in. Winds will turn gusty with the passage of the front where we could see gusts exceed 20 mph. Excessive rain is not a concern, rainfall is expected to be around 0.25 to 0.50″ with an isolated inch possible. Northerly wind takes over Thursday night into Friday as high pressure builds in from the west, so we can’t rule out a few lake effect showers across the Thumb as cold air brushes over the warmer lake waters.
A chilly morning is expected Friday. Highs for the remainder of the week will be in the low to mid-70s. We will see a warm-up into the upper 70s for Sunday and Labor Day as dry weather sticks around through the holiday weekend. For students who go back-to-school on Tuesday, plan for more seasonal temperatures around 80.
