Showers, non-severe storms heading to Metro Detroit -- Here’s what to expect

Warming to near average by early next week

DETROIT – Grab an umbrella as you leave the house today. Not quite as chilly this morning, but rain in on the way.

A cold front is crossing the region bringing rain chances by late this morning and non-severe thunderstorms through the afternoon into the early evening before pushing out late evening as drier air builds in overnight.

Winds will turn gusty with the passage of the front where we could see gusts upward of 25 mph.

Excessive rain is not a concern; rainfall is expected to be around a quarter of an inch. Northerly wind takes over tonight into Friday as high pressure builds in from the west, so we can’t rule out a few lake effect showers across the Thumb as cold air brushes over the warmer lake waters.

Looking Ahead

A chilly morning is expected Friday. The remainder of the week will be in the low to mid-70s. We will see a warm-up into the upper 70s for Sunday and Labor Day as dry weather and sunshine persist through the holiday weekend.

For students who go back-to-school on Tuesday, plan for more seasonal temperatures around 80. Humidity looks to increase slightly by Tuesday into Wednesday. The best chances for rain next week will arrive Wednesday into Thursday.
