Warm, breezy in Metro Detroit today -- Here’s when to expect dramatic drop in temperatures, rain

Showers, non-severe storms arrive this evening through tonight

DETROIT – Warm and breezy today with highs in the low 80s. Wind gusts today could peak between 20-25 mph. We will start the day with sunshine and clouds will increase through midday ahead of an approaching cold front that will bring showers and a few non-severe thunderstorms late this evening through tonight.

Most of the rain will roll out before daybreak on Thursday, but we will be feeling much more fall-like to round out the week into the weekend as cooler temperatures settle in Thursday through Sunday resulting in afternoon highs about 10 degrees below average each day in the upper 60s. These temperatures are closer to average highs in late September, early October. Overnight lows will be in the 40s.

This will be a great weekend to hit a local cider mill or apple orchard with the fall-like weather and dry conditions on tap. We rise only into the low 70s early next week. As far as the official start to fall, that will come with the autumnal equinox on September 22.
