Holiday week brings changes to weather pattern in Metro Detroit, a look at the Thanksgiving forecast

Warmer than average start with rain, wind and cool down ahead.

The pick day of the week! Above-average temperatures return with highs in the low 50s and dry throughout the daylight hours with increasing clouds. This gives us one more shot to get outside to finish yardwork or outdoor decorating ahead of Thanksgiving.

Travel Impacts: Moderate impacts from Texas up to Missouri due to a storm system that could bring flash flooding for that area of the country.

Tuesday

Even though highs will be back around 50, rain showers move in early Tuesday and continue through Tuesday afternoon, becoming spotty into the evening. I would give yourself a few extra minutes on the roads Tuesday morning as that is when the rain is a bit more widespread which will likely reduce speeds during the morning rush hour drive.

Travel Impacts: The upper-level low pressure that moved out of Texas will work its way to the NE and bring rain to the Great Lakes and moderate travel impacts up towards the New England region.

Wednesday

Expect whipping winds on Wednesday. A strong cold front will pass through Wednesday morning. Westerly wind gusts could reach 45 mph in the afternoon and usher in a much cooler airmass to end the week. Highs on Wednesday will be in the 40s.

Travel Impacts: Moderate weather impacts are expected along the east coast and up in the Pacific Northwest.

Thanksgiving Day

Lake effect snow showers ramp up Wednesday night through Thanksgiving Day and linger into Friday. If you are heading to America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner White, bundle up! We will be in the upper 20s to low 30s throughout the morning with wind chills in the teens to low 20s. It will be blustery as wind gusts peak in the 30-35 mph range.

Weekend

Lake effect flurries will be possible Friday and Saturday, but relatively dry and cold. Heading to the big rivalry game at the Big House? Temperatures will be in the 20s for tailgating and low 30s through the game. A wintry mix will arrive on Sunday making for tricky travel to end the holiday weekend.
