4Warn Weather – If you’re heading out in Metro Detroit, keep an eye on the roads. Light snow showers are moving through the area, and while most roads look okay, more snow is expected to develop as the evening wears on.
The snow is expected to stay on the lighter side, but even a dusting to an inch could make for slick driving tonight and early tomorrow.
Cold temperatures and biting wind chills ahead
The chill isn’t going anywhere soon. Temperatures around Metro Detroit are hovering between 20 and 25 degrees, but those gusty winds—clocked at 15 to 30 mph—are making it feel even colder. Wind chills are dipping down to single digits in areas like Flint, Pontiac, and Sandusky, and most of southeastern Michigan is feeling something closer to 10 to 15 degrees.
The cold is expected to stick around: overnight lows tonight will drop near 20 degrees, and tomorrow’s highs are forecast to only brush 30 degrees. Heading into New Year’s Day, expect overnight lows in the lower teens and afternoon highs near 22 degrees. A few flurries could still linger into New Year’s as well.
Looking ahead: your 7-day forecast
Expect more cold and mostly quiet stretch heading into the weekend. Thursday brings another round of light accumulation, followed by chilly highs around 30 degrees through Sunday. Flurries may pop up again later Sunday, and by Monday and Tuesday, temperatures are likely to return closer to normal for this time of year.
The key takeaway? It’s all about light but persistent snow chances and to keep an eye out for slick conditions each evening and morning, especially through the New Year holiday weekend.
