Winter Weather Advisory issued for Metro Detroit

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for Southeast Michigan for Monday into Tuesday morning.

4Warn Weather - The National Weather Service in Detroit has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Southeast Michigan that will begin at midnight tonight (Sunday) and be in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday. The advisory is for a combination of winter weather hazards including cold temperatures, frigid wind chills, gusty winds, and snow.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Snow develops in the evening hours with 1-3″ of snow accumulation expected overnight. Low: 15°, wind chill around O° to 5°.

MONDAY (MLK JR DAY): Mostly cloudy skies with scattered snow showers. Snow squalls are possible, so if you have a commute you may need to budget extra time. Additional snow accumulation is possible. High: 19° (in morning, temps fall to the mid teens by the afternoon), wind chill near 0° for much of the day, evening wind chills drop below 0°. Windy with gusts to 45mph possible, particularly during the afternoon.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with snow tapering off. Low: 4°, wind chill -5° to -15°. Winds drop to 10-15mph with gusts to 20mph.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy with the chance of a few flurries. High: 15°, afternoon wind chills in the low single digits.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy with the next chance for snow. High: 32°.

Snow begins this evening and continues overnight with 1-3″ of accumulation expected. You may add a bit more on to that Monday as scattered snow lingers.

Tonight’s lows will be in the mid teens with highs tomorrow staying near 20 degrees.

Winds increase Monday, out of the west at 15-25mph, with gusts to 45mph possible. This will give Metro Detroit wind chills Monday afternoon around 0°.

Winds gradually lighten Monday night, falling to 10-15mph. With temperatures in the low single digits, that’s enough to make it feel more like -5° to -15° into Tuesday morning.

Tuesday afternoon we’ll warm to the teens with mostly cloudy skies. There’s the chance for scattered flurries but the better chance for snow arrives Wednesday.
