DETROIT – Hundreds of schools around Southeast Michigan were closed Monday due to weather, but will that be the case again on Tuesday?

Dangerously cold temperatures

A cold weather advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday, as the frigid temperatures continue into a second straight week.

Wind chills at midnight will be 10-20 degrees below zero, and by sunrise, they’ll likely be 10-15 below zero.

Snow forecast

There’s also more snow on the way, though not as much as we got over the weekend.

Metro Detroit is likely to get at least a dusting and as much as 2 inches of snow on Tuesday.

Snow is likely to start before daybreak, and then there will be a couple of snow bands through midday.

School closing possibility

Due to sub-zero wind chill readings and morning snowfall, there is a chance for more school closings Tuesday in Southeast Michigan.

But it doesn’t appear there will be as many as Monday morning.

Since the cold weather advisory ends at 10 a.m., students wouldn’t have to walk home during the advisory, though it would be in effect for the morning.

As of Monday morning, Tuesday and Friday look like the best chances for school closings this week. Tuesday is because of the possible combination of snow and cold temperatures, and Friday is because wind chill temperatures could fall to 20 below zero.

Every night this week will fall to either side of zero. Teens are the highs for the week, and we might get into the low 20s by Sunday.
