Will there be more school closings in Metro Detroit this week? What to know about next 3 days

Coldest temperatures for rest of week appear to arrive Friday

DETROIT – Will there be more school closings in Metro Detroit this week with more dangerously cold temperatures ahead?

Hundreds of schools around Southeast Michigan were closed Monday, and more than 100 closed Tuesday.

Tuesday is expected to be below zero for most of the day, with a chance to climb into the low single digits for wind chills. There could be some light snowflakes in the afternoon, but the snowfall isn’t expected to be significant.

On Wednesday, there will be some snow flurries as temperatures get back in the teens.

Thursday is cold again, with similar temperatures to Tuesday in the morning.

While temperatures will remain extremely cold on Wednesday and Thursday, the coldest day of the rest of the week appears to be Friday.

Cold weather advisories are possible for Friday, and maybe also part of Thursday.

Temperatures on Friday morning will be about 7 degrees below zero without wind chills. Wind chill readings are likely to be 10-20 degrees below zero.

Friday’s high temperature is around 11 degrees, which means it’ll stay cold throughout the day. Students walking home in the bitter cold could be a factor in school closing decisions, as well.

The dangerous temperatures in the morning, combined with the pervasive cold throughout the day, could lead to school closings on Friday.

Metro Detroit appears to have a break from significant snowfall for the rest of the week. There could be some lake-effect snow flurries, but nothing major is in the immediate forecast.
