Dramatic drop in temperatures across Metro Detroit, thunderstorm chances this week

Weather whiplash as temperatures drop 30 degrees to start April

It feels like an April Fool’s joke. Waking up to weather whiplash on this Wednesday morning. Temperatures have fallen by 20 to 30 degrees from yesterday and will stay rather steady today in the low to mid-40s. Winds will gust out of the north around 20 mph, making it feel a bit cooler. The cooldown is brief.

Severe Threat on Thursday

A warm front lifts through the area Thursday morning, bringing (non-severe) shower chances. A brief period of a wintry mix will be possible in the Thumb tomorrow before changing to rain. Otherwise, a chance for stronger storms arrives later in the day. Another low-pressure system brings a chance of thunderstorms after 9 p.m. A couple of strong-to-severe storms will be more likely on US-23, where there is a slight (level 2) risk. A marginal (level 1) risk east of the corridor. All threats are on the table (damaging wind gusts, isolated tornado and large hail).

Good Friday/Opening Day

A warm and windy Friday is on tap. Whether you are heading to the Tigers Home Opener or services for Good Friday, you can plan for temperatures to rise into the 70s. There is a chance for rain before sunrise and after sunset, but we should spend the daylight hours under partly cloudy skies.

Saturday Showers

We remain warm with highs still around 70 degrees, but another low lifts through the Great Lakes Saturday, supporting additional showers and a few thunderstorms.

Easter Sunday

A cooler morning egg hunt will be on tap with temperatures in the upper 30s. Below average temperatures return Sunday with highs in the upper 40s with low 50s early next week.
