Metro Detroit Halloween Trick or Treating forecast: Latest updates on conditions

DETROIT – Ben Bailey is tracking the latest weather information for your Halloween festivities.

Here are the latest updates - we'll be adding updates every 30 minutes through the early evening.

  • 6:30 p.m. - Spooky darkness is closing in on Metro Detroit. Fortunately, the scary grey skies aren't leaking anything, but Mother Nature's trick are the temperatures, which continue to hover in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees. Wind continues to diminish, but what's out there is creating wind chills in the low 30s, so it'll be a cold one out there for the kids. Don't forget to take pictures of your kids and post them on WDIV's StormPins - I'll show some of them tonight on Local 4 News at 11.
  • 6 p.m. - We're within a half an hour of sunset, so we'll start seeing diminishing light as you head out. Be especially careful as you drive through neighborhoods, as it may be hard to see kids, depending on their costumes. Wind speeds are still double digits in some spots, but they are decreasing. 4Live radar is still dry, but wind chills are still around the freezing mark, even as temps continue to drop into the 30s.
  • 5:30 p.m. The biggest treat on this Halloween is we've been spared any rain or snow, and from the looks of 4Live radar, there is a good shot we'll stay that way until the candy is gone. Temps are another story. Temps are as low as 38 in Pontiac and as warm as 42 in Monroe, but a steady breeze is keeping wind chills near the freezing mark for most of the area. Next update at 5:30 p.m.
  • 5 p.m. - Temps around the area average upper 30s to near 40 degrees right now and it remains dry in Metro Detroit. It's the wind chill you should dress your kids for - and right now, it feels like low 30s out there. Make sure they're dressed in layers under those costumes. As you head home from work, please be extra careful in your neighborhoods, especially as dusk approaches, as some kids' costumes may be hard to see. To make your child more visible, have them walk with a flashlight. Our next update will be at 5:30 p.m.
  • 4:30 p.m. - Conditions remain dry around Metro Detroit as you head out for Trick or Treating this evening - it should stay that way. Temps are averaging near 40 degrees but wind chills remain near freezing. Best advice I can give you is to dress the kids in layers underneath their costumes. If the costume permits, a hat and gloves would also help a lot. Our next update will be at 5 p.m.
  • 4 p.m. - Wind chills are now below freezing. Feels like 30 in Pontiac and 31 in Howell. The rest of Southeast Michigan is not far behind. Wind speeds will diminish the later we get and will be below 10 mph after sunset. 4Live radar continues to remain dry. Most of us should stay that way through Halloween. Our next update will be at 4:30 p.m.
  • 3:30 p.m. - Radar continues to show dry conditions across the area. However, it continues to be cold with current temperatures ranging from 43 degrees at Monroe and Port Huron to 38 degrees at Pontiac and Howell. West winds between 10 and 20 mph makes it feel like it's in the low 30s. Our next update will be at 4 p.m.
  • 3 p.m. - Plenty of clouds as we head towards trick-or-treating. 4Live radar is not showing any rain or snow right now. We still could see a drop in spots but the forecast is looking generally dry for this evening. Temps are in the upper 30s to low 40s but wind chills make it feel near freezing. We'll be monitoring the Halloween forecast all afternoon. Our next update will be at 3:30 p.m.
