More than 1 million people signed up for Michiganโs COVID vaccine sweepstakes, Gov. Whitmer announces
According to the Governorโs Office, 1,001,149 residents signed up to participate in the COVID vaccine sweepstakes as of 2:30 p.m. on July 6, with 44,966 young Michiganders signing up for the scholarship drawing.
1,700% increase in drug seizures at Michigan ports of entry, CBP reports
DETROIT โ The U.S. Customs and Border Protection releases stats every year about the amount of illegal items they confiscate annually. This year, they are reporting a steep increase in items. CBP reported 9,059 pounds of marijuana, 211 pounds of cocaine, 15 pounds of fentanyl and two pounds of meth have been seized from people leaving or entering the United States at Michigan ports of entry. CBP reported a 1,736% increase in seized marijuana and 227% increase in weapons seized -- enough to supply a small army. Why the increase in illegal items crossing the border?
Coin shortage forces some shoppers to pay electronically
Geoff Aaron is like many customers at Meijer Grocery stores across Metro Detroit. Several stores have signs posted on their doors, for everyone to see. The signs say Due to the national coin shortage, self-checkout registers are electronic payment only. I dont, carrying cash now a days, especially with the, (you know) I mostly use my card anyways, said Aaron. While we understand this effort may be frustrating to some customers, its necessary to manage the impact of the coin shortage on our stores.
