Warren man charged with spousal abuse waives arraignment in circuit court

37-year-old Michael Brooks will head to pretrial in case involving his late 400-pound wife

WARREN, Mich. – A man charged with second degree spousal abuse in the death of his 400-pound wife returned to court Monday to waive his arraignment.

Michael Brooks, 37, is charged with neglecting his wife, 40-year-old Yolanda Reese-Brooks, which, prosecutors say, ultimately led to her death.

Reese-Brooks was found inside the family's apartment with bed sores and covered in her own waster. She later died at a hospital.

Police called the apartment "uninhabitable," with no beds for the children and only rotting food in the refrigerator.

Michael Brooks has been allowed to have supervised visits with his four children while he waits for trial.

Brooks will return to court for a pretrial hearing on Dec. 17.
