Plymouth Whalers acquire center Campagna from Sudbury Wolves

20-year-old Mathew Campagna is established point producer in OHL

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The Plymouth Whalers are hoping 20-year-old center Mathew Campagna adds some much-needed offense this season.

Campagna has been acquired from the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for draft choices in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He joins a young Whalers team that finished the 2013-14 season as the second lowest scoring team in the OHL -- just 187 goals in 68 regular season games.

Campagna has established himself as a point producer in the OHL, registering 68 points in 66 games with the Wolves in 2012-13 and 74 points in 68 games this past season.

"Mathew's a proven player in the OHL," said Whalers GM Mark Craig in a Friday news release. "He addresses a need that we were looking for -- a good offensive player capable of putting points on the board every night. His leadership ability and locker room presence will make our young players that much better. Matthew will make us a much better offensive team."

Campagna will join Plymouth in time for training camp, which begins Aug. 26 at Compuware Arena.

The Whalers have added a few players to the team this offseason including first round pick Will Bitten and second round selection Nicholas Caamano.
