University of Michigan alum, EGOT winner James Earl Jones dies at 93

Jones passed away in his New York home Monday morning

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – James Earl Jones, the voice of the famous University of Michigan football game video intro, has passed away.

Jones, 93, served in the United States Army for two years before graduating from U of M Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955.

Reports say the EGOT winner died Monday (Sept. 9) morning in his New York home.

Best known as the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars, he also starred in The Great White Hope, The Hunt for Red October, and baseball classic Field of Dreams.

Jones starred on Broadway and television.

He also has an award collection unmatched by many, including Tonys, Emmys, the 2008 Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, and a 2011 honorary Academy Award for consistent excellence and uncommon versatility.
