Michigan gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson has announced her running mate.
On Wednesday, Aug. 19, Benson announced at an event in Grand Rapids that she is choosing Michigan Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks as her running mate.
Brinks has served in the Michigan Senate since 2019 and represents Grand Rapids.
This comes days after Republican gubernatorial candidate John James announced Michigan Rep. Jay DeBoyer will be running alongside him for Lt. Governor.
If Benson were elected, she and Brinks would make history, as a female governor has never served alongside a female Lt. Governor in Michigan.
If James were elected, he would also make history as Michigan’s first Black governor.
