ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan has created a winning culture in baseball, hockey, basketball, soccer, and football in recent years, and professional sports leagues have taken notice as the school has become the first school to have a first-round pick in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and MLS drafts in the same year.

Infielder Mitch Voit

  • Drafted: No. 38 overall by the New York Mets.

The New York Mets selected Michigan Wolverines infielder Mitch Voit with the No. 38 pick in Major League Baseball’s Amateur Draft on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

With the selection, Voit became the first Big Ten player selected in the draft.

Although he was a two-way star on the diamond, Voit will be remembered for his celebration after hitting a triple during the Wolverines’ 11-0 victory over the USC Trojans in Ann Arbor.

Voit, after heading headfirst into third base, as his fellow Wolverines cheered him on, the junior ball player pretended to snort the chalk on the third-base line.

During his junior season, Voit started all 56 games, showcasing remarkable consistency and leadership on the field.

He slashed an impressive .346 batting average with a .471 on-base percentage and a team-leading .668 slugging percentage.

His overall OPS topped the Wolverines’ charts, reflecting his offensive dominance.

The player scored 53 runs on 72 hits and drove in 60 RBIs, leading the team in eight offensive categories, including home runs, walks, and stolen bases. He recorded 35 extra-base hits, comprising 17 doubles, four triples, and 14 home runs.

On the base paths, Voit was nearly perfect, going 14-for-16 in stolen bases to lead the Wolverines.

His plate discipline was evident with 40 walks compared to just 34 strikeouts.

Defensively, he held a .986 fielding percentage with 116 putouts, 176 assists, only four errors, and contributed to 38 double plays.

Key performances highlighted his impact throughout the season.

On May 17, Voit tallied two RBIs and two hits in an 8-3 win over Indiana.

Two days earlier, he homered in a two-run, two-hit, three-RBI game against the same team.

Against Nebraska on May 10, he recorded five total bases with a double and a triple while scoring once.

Voit hit a two-run home run on May 7 in an 8-7 win over Central Michigan, marking the 33rd home run of his career.

Other notable moments included a home run in the series finale against Ohio State on May 4 and a career-high five RBIs on April 26 in a 9-2 win over Michigan State, where he also hit a triple and a home run.

Voit consistently contributed with multiple hits and runs scored in wins against Bowling Green, Iowa, Toledo, Oregon, Eastern Michigan, Penn State, Purdue, USC, MSU, Long Beach State, TCU, Stetson, Villanova, and Virginia.

His outstanding week in March earned him Big Ten Player of the Week and Bobby Bragan Slugger of the Week honors after slashing .667/.739/1.222 with six runs and 12 RBIs over five games.

Preseason accolades included Baseball America Third Team Preseason All-American and Perfect Game Preseason All-Conference Team selections.

Centerman William Horcoff

  • Drafted: No. 24 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Wolverines centerman Will Horcoff with the No. 24 pick in the National Hockey League Draft on Friday, June 28, 2025.

If hockey fans think that name sounds familiar, it’s because the freshman phenom is the son of Detroit Red Wings Assistant General Manager Shawn Horcoff.

The Edmonton Oilers drafted Shawn in 1998, where he also served as captain during his 12 seasons with the organization.

The Wolverines welcomed the promising freshman who left an impact on the ice.

Internationally, Will helped Team USA capture gold at the 2024 U18 Five Nations tournament, playing in all four games.

He also earned a silver medal at the 2023 World U17 Hockey Challenge, contributing one goal and two assists in seven games.

His freshman year highlights include a memorable debut at Wrigley Field, where he scored a goal and assisted in a win over Ohio State on Jan. 3.

Will followed that with assists in both games of the Notre Dame series on Jan. 10 and 11.

He scored key goals in a 3-2 victory over Michigan State on Jan. 17 and added a goal and an assist in a 7-3 win against Penn State on Feb. 1.

Additional assists came in wins over Minnesota on Feb. 14 and in the first game of the Big Ten quarterfinal series against Penn State on March 7, where he also scored a goal.

Before joining Michigan, Will played two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP).

In 2024-25, Will appeared in 19 games for the program, scoring four goals—including a game-winner—and adding four assists.

He also earned an assist during an exhibition game at Yost Ice Arena when Michigan defeated the USNTDP 5-4.

Previously, Will played for the U17 national team in 2023-24, tallying 11 goals and eight assists in 54 games.

His hockey journey began with Honeybaked, where he developed the skills that have propelled him to collegiate and international success.

Forward Danny Wolf

  • Drafted: No. 27 overall by the Brooklyn Nets.

The Brooklyn Nets have selected Wolverines star forward Danny Wolf with the No. 27 pick in the NBA draft on June 25, 2025.

Wolf had a tremendous season for the Wolverines, leading them to a Big Ten Tournament championship and a trip to the Sweet 16, where they fell to the Final Four contenders, the Auburn Tigers.

The skilled, stretched big man with elusive ball handling was invited to the NBA draft green room.

Wolf is a 7′0″ towering point forward who just so happens to have a 7′2″ wingspan, and can knock down the long ball, as evidenced by his 33.6% shooting last season.

Head coach Dusty May let Wolf’s versatility shine inside and outside Crisler Arena, as he was the primary ball handler for the majority of Michigan’s magical run.

DT Mason Graham

  • Drafted: No. 5 overall by the Cleveland Browns.

The Cleveland Browns selected Wolverines national championship-winning defensive tackle Mason Graham with the No. 5 pick in Thursday’s first round of the NFL Draft on April 24, 2025.

The Browns traded picks No. 2, 105, and 200 to the Jacksonville Jaguars for picks No.5, 36, and 126 to move back to take Graham.

Graham, who is regarded as one of the top players in the country, joins a litany of Wolverines defensive tackles who anchored the interior for the men in maize, like Mazi Smith and Kris Jenkins Jr., as he, like them, enters the National Football League. His elusiveness disrupted many offenses during his tenure in Ann Arbor.

The 6′3″ 296-pound defensive tackle’s closing burst leads to him becoming a menace not only for offensive linemen, but he will continuously be in the face of opposing quarterbacks.

Graham was a first-team Associated Press All-American, a First-team All-Big Ten, a finalist for the Bednarik Award, awarded to the nation’s top defender, and an Outland Trophy finalist for the nation’s top offensive/defensive lineman while starting all 12 games for the Wolverines.

He finished the 2024 season with 45 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and three and a half sacks, helping Michigan reach the ReliaQuest Bowl, which they ultimately won, defeating Alabama on New Year’s Eve.

As a sophomore in the 2023 national championship season, Graham was selected First-team All-Big Ten Conference, Rose Bowl Defensive MVP, while starting 13 games for the national champions, totaling 36 tackles, seven and a half tackles for loss with three sacks, one pass break up, and a forced fumble.

As a freshman, Graham played in all 14 games as a reserve, totaling 27 tackles, two and a half sacks, and one pass breakup during the 2022 season.

TE Colston Loveland

  • Drafted: No. 10 overall by the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears selected Wolverines national championship-winning tight end Colston Loveland with the No. 10 pick in the first round of the NFL Draft on April 24, 2025.

Loveland was one of the most athletic tight ends in program history. Sometimes, he’d like to play outside at wide receiver and route up opposing teams’ best cornerbacks.

His footwork and agility were second to none at the position. He had supreme separation when faced with man coverage and gained tough yards during his illustrious career with the men in maize.

The 6′6″ 248-pound pass catcher was selected to the second-team All-Big Ten while leading the lackluster passing offense with a single-season tight end program record 56 receptions for 582 yards and five receiving touchdowns.

Loveland was a finalist for the John Mackey Award, which is awarded to the nation’s top tight end.

He played in 10 games with seven starts as he missed time last season due to a shoulder injury.

Loveland made first-team All-Big Ten Conference while playing in all 15 games, starting 12 games for the national champion Wolverines in 2023.

During that season, Loveland snagged 45 catches for 649 yards and four touchdowns.

During the 2022 season, Loveland won the team’s Offensive and Co-Special Teams Rookie of the Year, playing in 14 games while starting five, catching 16 receptions for 235 yards and two touchdowns.

Before his collegiate career, Loveland was named Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior, as he caught 62 passes for 968 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He also toted the rock 33 times for 352 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

DT Kenneth Grant

  • Drafted: No. 13 overall by the Miami Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins selected Wolverines national championship-winning defensive tackle Kenneth Grant with the No. 13 pick in the first round of the NFL Draft on April 24, 2025.

Grant left behind a significant presence that only a few could ever match in Ann Arbor. The defensive tackle was a freak athlete for the Wolverines.

He uses his power to defeat single blocks and split double teams when he finds creases on the opposing team’s offensive lines.

As a Michigan man, Grant left an athletic impression, having once achieved a vertical jump of at least 29 inches, which is impressive for a man of his stature.

Back in 2023, during Michigan’s reactive plyo stairs test, Grant showcased his athleticism by jumping a series of seven 26-inch-high stairs that the Wolverines use to try to record their fastest time.

The freakishly talented future Pro-Bowl athlete was a third-team Associated Press All-American and second-team All-Big Ten while starting 12 games for the men in maize.

Grant finished the year with 32 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss with three sacks and five pass breakups.

He almost had a game-changing scoop-and-score against USC but got hawked down and fumbled the ball back to the Trojans.

Grant was a second-team All-Big Ten Conference selection in 2023.

He played in all 15 games, starting five for the national champion Wolverines. He recorded 29 tackles, five tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one interception, and six pass breakups.

In 2022, Grant played in all 14 games as a reserve, where he racked up eight tackles.

Midfielder Jason Bucknor

  • Drafted: No. 20 overall by the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Los Angeles Galaxy selected Michigan soccer student-athlete Jason Bucknor with the No. 20 pick in the first round of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft on Dec. 20, 2024.

He is the first Wolverine drafted since 2020, when Jack Hallahan and Andrew Verdi were selected.

Bucknor became the fourth Michigan player taken in the first round and the first since Francis Atuahene went fourth overall to FC Dallas in 2018.

He finished his collegiate career strong, leading the Wolverines with six goals in 2024.

Bucknor played multiple positions during the 2024 season, including defender and forward.

He scored his first career brace in a 3-3 tie against UCLA on Sept. 21 and netted the game-winning goal against No. 2-seeded Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament on Nov. 7.

Bucknor earned several accolades in his final year, including being named to the Big Ten’s Player to Watch list and TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Week on Sept. 23.

Off the field, Bucknor was recognized three times as Academic All-Big Ten.

With the Major League Baseball draft recently taking place, infielder Mitch Voit was the final player to get selected in the four major sports.
