Woodward Dream Cruise fast approaching

Historic Woodward Avenue is preparing for Saturday, August 17

DETROIT – The world's largest automotive event is just two weeks away. The Woodward Dream Cruise is Saturday, August 17 and people around the world are preparing to convene on historic Woodward Avenue.

"It is an opportunity for old friends to get together and celebrate the automobile and our areas love with it," says Greg Rassel, president of the Woodward Dream Cruise, "It is where people came during the time period of the classic cars before all the growth in the area."

Starting as a small fundraiser to raise money for a soccer field in Ferndale, the event has grown to become a worldwide affair with car lovers from as far away as Japan & New Zealand hitting the streets of Woodward.

Over 40,000 classic rides will come and inject over $50 million into the local economy according to estimates.

"The estimated 1.5 million visitors to the Woodward Dream Cruise will make an enormous positive economic impact to Metro Detroit; many will experience the Woodward Dream Cruise for the very first time," says Louis Katsaros of the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Preparations for the cruise have already started. MDOT is halting resurfacing efforts starting Monday, August 5. For more information, click here.

Saturday is the big kahuna, but there are car shows and events in the days leading up to the official cruise.

There's also Berkley CruiseFest on August 16 & 17, the Ferndale Dream Cruise August 15-17, and more in Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, Pontiac, & Royal Oak.
