Hogan's Restaurant in Bloomfield Township closes Sunday

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Hogan’s Restaurant on Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township will be closing its doors for the last time Sunday night.

For weeks, the place has been packed so patrons could get in for one last meal.

“We’ve been here a long time, it’s been a good run, but it’s time to move on,” Rick Bochenek, the owner, said.

He said it was a difficult decision to pack it up, but it’s not the building that’s hard to leave, nor the business that he’ll miss most.

“Through the years, you form a lot of great relationships with people in this area, so it’s been very overwhelming,” Bochenek said.

The restaurant has been around for 56 years, first opening in 1960 and changing its name to Hogan’s in 1975.

Over the years, it was an attraction for celebrities, bringing in Frank Sinatra and Bob Seger.

“Dennis Rodman used to come in after every home game,” Bochenek said.

To those who work at Hogan’s, it’s not the celebrities nor the menu, it’s the regulars that are hardest to leave.

“If I could take one thing home with me, it’d be the customers,” said Deborah Bell, a waitress. “They’re like family.”
