'Rebuilding Together' takes on 27 projects in Oakland County

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Nearly 1,000 volunteers fanned across Oakland County on Saturday to help make home repairs for those less fortunate.

The “Rebuilding Together” project helps those who can’t make home repairs, or those who can’t afford to make them,

Joan Rowe, of Milford, says she’s a tough woman, but isn’t afraid to admit when she needs help. The group worked on 14 different projects at Rowe’s home.

“Things that need to be done that I can’t afford to get done,” Rowe said.

The group had projects at 27 different locations in Oakland County.

“I think we live in a world today that everything can’t get done without everybody’s help,” volunteer Kevin Vandenbussche said. “There’s just not enough money and organizations to meet the need.”

The group repaired vents, replaced laundry tubs, painted rooms and remodeled bathrooms, among various other projects.

“I’m just so thankful,” Rowe said. “I can’t tell you how thankful I am -- grateful, very, very grateful.”
