Go 4 It: Help kids get ready for upcoming school year with supply drive

School Supply Drive helps Metro Detroit students

Our August 2025 Go 4 It event is a School Supply Drive. (WDIV)

SOUTHGATE, Mich. – It’s time to help kids get ready for the upcoming school year with a school supply drive!

For our August Go 4 It event, we wanted to help more children start the school year off right.

We were at the Walmart at 14900 Dix Toledo Road in Southgate on Aug. 14, to collect donations.

We collected more than 6,600 school supplies -- backpacks, colored pencils, notebooks, and much more.

The Salvation Army Downriver Corp is sorting the items, and they will be given out during a distribution event Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Parents must bring their children and proof that they’ll be attending school. You must also live in a downriver community. The full list of eligible ZIP codes is here:
