This shortage is leading consumers to seek alternatives but the FDA, says these alternatives aren't always safe. The warning is specifically directed at counterfeit version of Teva Pharmaceuticals 30 milligram Adderall. Currently it's being sold online, but has the wrong ingredients.
The FDA says the counterfeit Adderall "should be considered unsafe, ineffective and potentially harmful." It can be identified as round, white and without markings.
Several companies make the drug Adderall. So far, the warning is limited to fake versions of the Teva Pharmaceuticals version.
