AAA: Gas prices 'holding steady'

15 states see prices dip below $2

(LAKANA) – Gas prices are "holding steady" for August, averaging $2.12 per gallon, according to AAA.

Prices at the pump are 48 cents cheaper than one year ago, and 12 cents less than the previous month.

About 44 percent of gas stations in the U.S. are selling gas under $2 per gallon. Gas is below $2 per gallon in 15 states.

AAA credits "abundant" gas supplies for the lower prices. Gas dropped in 38 states, but several Midwest states saw increases.

AAA predicts national averages could fall below $2 a gallon in mid-September when refineries begin producing a cheaper winter-blend.
