Cheap and easy spring decorations

See ya, winter!  Spring is finally making its presence known and it’s time to start doing some spring decorating.  Take a look at these simple projects that with bring spring into your home like a breath of fresh air!

Colander planters:  Want a fun way to brighten up your hanging plants?  Use colanders!  Paint the colander the color or colors of your choice.  Next, wrap the handles of your colander with twine, starting at the middle and working your way to the outside of the handle.  This will give you two long strings on each side that you can knot together to form the handle to hang.  Line the colander with sheet moss and then fill with potting soil and the plants of your choice.

 

Hide the cords:  Electrical cords are a necessary evil since we needs things like lamps and appliances and electronics.  Add some spring color to your home by wrapping the cords in embroidery floss.  It’s cheap and easy, just wrap the floss tightly around the cord as a solid color or multicolored pattern.  And the best part?  When you get tired of it, you can choose a different color or colors and start all over again!

 

Create a new headboard:  Tired of the headboard you have?  You can make yourself a new one with a little paint and a garden trellis.  Use 1x4 inch board to build a frame for it and then have your hardware store cute the lattice to fit the frame you built.  All that’s left to do is paint and accessorize!  You can leave it as is or add small touches like a small round mirror or small canvas pictures to complete the look.

 

Add color with pavers:  Want to brighten up your patio?  Use hand painted pavers!  Start with a clean paver and a stencil of your choice.  Tape the stencil to your stone and then paint over it with a paint that will adhere to stone, something like chalk paint or cement paint.  Give it time to dry, remove the stencil and move onto the next one.  When you’re ready, place them around your yard for your own colorful road to follow.
