MTV is bringing back 'Total Request Live'

'TRL' to return in October 2017

DETROIT – If you grew up in the late 1990s or early 2000s, this news will blow your mind.

MTV is planning on bringing back "TRL - Total Request Live," the hit show that ran on MTV from 1998 to 2008.

MTV president Chris McCarthy broke the news during an interview with the New York Times.

McCarthy told the Times that "TRL" would be returning in October, with a new studio under construction in Times Square.

“If we’re going to come back and reinvent MTV, the studio is a given,” he said. “It is the centerpiece.”

"TRL" was a huge hit among the 18-34 demographic, which MTV is trying to recapture.

If you're not familiar with the show, "TRL" was essentially a countdown of the most popular music videos as voted by viewers.

Hosted by Carson Daly, the show would bring some of the biggest names in show business. It was canceled in 2008.
