Christina Burkhart joins Local 4 News as newest meteorologist

Christina Burkhart (WDIV)

Hi friends! Thank you for welcoming me back home to Southeast Michigan!

I grew up in Saline, where my family still resides. When I was young and living in Pennsylvania, a tornado put a pine tree through our house. This sparked my initial fascination with weather, and as I grew older, I continued to develop a strong interest in math and science.

I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Earth Science before attending Mississippi State University, where I earned a master’s degree in Geosciences. While in Mississippi, I completed the broadcast meteorology curriculum and wrote a thesis studying the relationship between weather patterns and mallard migration.

During my college years, I was fortunate to intern here at WDIV with Chuck Gaidica and Paul Gross. It was at this station that I discovered my love of communicating the weather. After spending a few years in Traverse City and more than a decade in Flint, it’s a full-circle moment to join the team here. My work has earned MAB, AP, and Emmy awards, and I strive to be someone you can always trust for an accurate forecast.

In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, traveling, exploring our national parks, trying new taco shops, playing with my rescue cat, and spending time with friends and family. I’m thrilled to be back home and look forward to exploring more of our communities!
