2017 Ford Fireworks to feature U.S. debut of pyrotechnic 'long standing letters' technique

DETROIT – This year's Ford Fireworks will have a special pyrotechnic technique used only in Europe, until now.

Monday's fireworks show on the Detroit River will include the U.S. debut of pyrotechnic technology which enables the creation of long standing letters in the sky, said Tony Michaels, president and CEO of The Parade Co., the nonprofit that produces the Ford Fireworks.

The new pyrotechnics will produce a readable message. Watch for it midway through the fireworks and again near the end.

This year’s show themed is “Detroit! Right Now!!" It will be choreographed again by the world-renowned Patrick Brault, who has years of experience designing pyrotechnic displays including past Olympics celebrations.
