My brother died in 2009 of this addiction.
In 1986 he had a hip fusion surgery which didn't go according to plans. At that time, he was 10 years old.
Fast forward 23 years and through countless surgeries, the last being a hip replacement at the age of 30, and he was addicted to Vicodin. He had an orthopedic doctor and a general practitioner which never talked and he went to different pharmacies to get them filled.
Each doctor gave him a full month's prescription that he would double and triple take and chase with vodka. We only found out this after his death and a toxicology report. I later chased down the pharmacies and doctors who all pointed the finger elsewhere.
These pushers hooked my brother at 10 years old starting with Tylenol No. 3's and ended his life with Vicodin. We tried rehab 2-3 times but because of the true pain he had, the options are limited.
